Joining Stainless-Steel AISI 304 and High-Strength Aluminum Alloy AA 6082 by Brazing Using Al-Ge-Si Foils

An Al-40.0Ge-3.4Si wt.% alloy foil with a thickness of 50 ± 5 μm, obtained via an ultrafast solidification method, is described in this work. A complete wetting the aluminum substrate angle 0° observed, and formation drop 30 5° observed on steel substrate. Similar dissimilar brazed joints AA 6082 stainless-steel AISI 304 are obtained. The microstructure 6082/AA seam homogeneous contains particles Al7Fe2Si system intermetallic compound Al-Ge eutectic composition. 304/AISI joint formed due to Al8Fe2(Si, Cr) reaction layer surface. proposed scheme for 304/AA given. represents surface, which depends holding time during brazing, matrix has composition close eutectic. results could be used optimization time–temperature brazing modes order improve mechanical characteristics joints.
